Minority Affairs Committee
The CTA Minority Affairs Committee encourages involvement of minorities in local, state, and national association programs. Monitor conditions of minority teachers and students.
Description of charges: The Palm Beach County CTA Minority Affairs Committee has the responsibility of promoting and assisting minority teachers involved in professional growth and development. This committee has the task of assuring equal opportunities to all minority teachers within the union. The committee is involved in minority teacher retention, leadership training, and supporting all other minority organized groups promoting civil rights, human rights, and diversity involvement.
GENERAL CHARGE:
- Encourage involvement of minorities in programs of the local, state, and national associations.
- Monitor conditions of minority teachers and students.
SPECIFIC CHARGES:
- Monitor the hiring policies and dismissal procedures of minority teachers.
- Recruit membership throughout the year.
- Participate in the community Martin L. King Activities conducted during the month of January.
- Collaborate with HCR in the nomination process for Martin Luther King Award, the national, state and local HCR Awards and other appropriate awards.
- Collaborate with HCR in establishing criteria for selection of local HCR Award recipients. (Criteria/recipients to be approved by CTA Board).
- Participate in Minority Leadership trainings and conferences.
- Sponsor or co-sponsor local Minority Affairs Committee.
- Provide training offered by NEA/FEA/AFT
NOTE: Please leave a copy of the Committee Report, Committee Planning Chart and Budget Worksheet for the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Executive Director, and in the committee file.
